Congratulations Afro Blue
Afro Blue, Howard University's premier vocal jazz ensemble, received an award for Outstanding Performance in the Graduate College - Large Vocal Ensemble category for the 35th Annual DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards. This marks Afro Blue's sixth consecutive award. Samuel Prather, graduating master's degree student in jazz piano, received an award for Outstanding Performance in the Graduate College - Original Composition/Lead Sheet category for his composition "On My Good Days."

Makeda Njoroge Awarded Clinton Center Peace Fellowship
Makeda Njoroge, a 2012 candidate for Bachelor of Arts in African Studies, was awarded a Clinton Center for International Peace Fellowship in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland for the summer of 2012. The program includes participants from the U.S., Kosovo and Northern Ireland. They will examine unresolved problems following a peace settlement, sectarianism, segregation, racism and associated violence.

Anita Wheeler, 2012 African Studies doctoral candidate, received an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities at UCLA, beginning this fall. Wheeler is currently completing a two-year Pre-Doctoral Fellowship at the Carter G. Woodson Institute at the University of Virginia. She will be based at the African Studies Center at UCLA, teaching in the Global and International Studies program and working on a post-doctoral research project titled, “Navigating Cultural Difference, Transforming Transnational Spaces: How the Cultural Exchanges Between African and Chinese Communities are Redefining Local and Global Spaces.”

Fall 2012 General Registration Rescheduled
Fall semester general registration has been re-scheduled. Registration for the fall semester will open on Monday, April 2, and end on Sunday, April 15. Because of this adjustment, summer 2012 and fall 2012 registration will be held concurrently to ensure that registration activity will be completed prior to the end of the Spring 2012 semester and before May 2012 graduation clearance. The course schedule for both terms will be available for review via Bison Web on Monday, March 13.
