Congratulations are in order to Dr. Prabhakar Misra and the Department of Physics and Astronomy! The department acts as the Howard University Chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and recently received the Society of Physics Students Distinguished Chapter award. Through an official letter from Brad R. Conrad, Ph.D, Director of the Society of Physics Students, Dr. Misra was praised for his hard work and dedication. “Your combined efforts supported the department, helped further student development, and strengthened the community” said Dr. Conrad “to have your group named as a Distinguished Chapter is a testament to your leadership skills and your ability to foster leadership among your students”.
The Society of Physics Students was formed in 1968 and has over 820 chapters on campuses across the country. The Department of Physics and Astronomy was nominated in the SPS Outstanding Chapters Awards category and received acknowledgment for being one of the most distinguished chapters during this academic year. After receiving this award for the 2nd year in a row, the Howard University Chapter of the SPS strives to reach the “Outstanding Chapters” status next academic year.
