Finding Belonging, Leading with Purpose
Before choosing Howard University, Jeremy Allman wasn’t just looking for a school, he was searching for a space where he could be seen, valued, and empowered. Through the Office of Intercultural Affairs and the LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Jeremy found not only a sense of belonging, but also a call to lead.
He began his leadership journey in the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Association, where he combined academic excellence with community service. Soon after, he was elected Vice President of the COAS Freshman Council, laying the foundation for a path rooted in advocacy.
As a Senator in the Howard University Student Association (HUSA), Jeremy served on the Appointments and Confirmations Committee and chaired the Lavender Committee, where he championed legislation to support LGBTQ+ students and improve student life. One major achievement: securing $2,500 worth of LSAT, MCAT, and GRE prep books for 50 students—helping to eliminate financial barriers to graduate school.
All while maintaining a 4.00 GPA.
Now, Jeremy is making history once again, as the first openly gay President of the 2025–2026 College of Arts and Sciences Student Council, Howard’s largest and oldest student government association.
“You may be the first, but make sure you are not the last.”
— Jeremy Allman
About the COAS Student Council
The College of Arts and Sciences Student Council (COAS Council) represents over 4,000 undergraduate students as their official voice. The Council champions student interests through policy, programming, and advocacy that address the unique challenges faced by COAS students.
Acting as a vital link between students and administrators, the Council ensures students' concerns are heard while actively collaborating with student organizations and the Howard University Student Government Association (HUSGA). It also connects students to key academic, professional, and personal growth opportunities.
Goals for the 2025–2026 Academic Year
Under Jeremy’s leadership, the COAS Council is focused on:
- Restoring visibility and credibility
- Building strong, campus-wide partnerships
- Ensuring every voice is represented
One of the first major initiatives launched was the creation of the Nontraditional Student Experience Department, aimed at affirming that every student, regardless of background or circumstance, feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
Looking ahead, the Council is committed to rebuilding bridges between students, the administration, and the Dean’s Office, while expanding access to resources through their TIMELESS Timeline, a strategic plan of initiatives designed to leave a lasting legacy.
