The staff in the Center for Preprofessional Education is here to support your undergraduate academic success, while preparing you to pursue and excel in a professional degree program.

Accelerated Programs

Superior academic achievers who fulfill specific requirements are eligible to complete the bachelors and doctorate degrees in six years.

Howard University Freshman are eligible to apply for majors such as:

  • Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Dentistry

  • Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine

  • Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Podiatric Medicine

Professional Development

Program participants are expected to engage in several personal and professional development opportunities, including:

  • Howard University Pre-Health Summer Enrichment Program
  • Howard University Pre-Ph.D. Scholars Summer Enrichment Program
  • Howard University Future Health Scholars Program (by invitation only - sophomores who have a minimum cumulative 3.2 GPA)
  • Howard University BS/MD & BS/DDS programs (by invitation only - freshmen biology and chemistry majors)
  • American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine; Association of American Medical Colleges; American Dental Education Association; National Institutes of Health; Public Health Education; health profession partnerships; community organizations; student leadership conferences of the national pre-health and pre-dental organizations; and future STEM and physician scientists professional organizations
  • Virtual (or in-person) Open Houses of medical, dental, and other health professional schools

Advising

We provide comprehensive individual academic and curricula advising based on the student’s background and major. Services are available to all students desiring to pursue careers in:

  • Allopathic and Osteopathic Medicine
  • Allied Health
  • Dentistry
  • Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Optometry
  • Podiatry
  • Veterinary Medicine

Test Preparation

Test preparation is offered for future health and summer pipeline program scholars for:

  • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)
  • Dental Admissions Test (DAT)
  • Optometry Admissions Test (OAT)

Tutoring Services

Free tutoring services are offered for program participants on weekdays, evenings, and weekends in the following areas:

  • Biochemistry
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
