Our Mission
The College of Arts and Sciences (COAS) offers an undergraduate education rooted in intellectual freedom, social justice, artistic expression, and the pursuit of knowledge. The Office of AIS² supports students through academic services that prepare them to contribute meaningfully in a complex world.
As “The Flagship” of Howard University, COAS and AIS² advance innovative teaching, research, training, and global service aimed at creating positive impact locally and worldwide. AIS² works with students, faculty, and leaders to promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and safe spaces for all ideas.

What We Do
Grievances/Escalations
Such as Grade Complaints, Professor Complaints. Students must first consult their instructor to determine how the final grade was calculated. If there is no resolution with the instructor, they should consult the department chair who may escalate the appeal to the college-level Grievance Committee. Petitions Requesting Exceptions
You request an exception from the department offering the course from an instructor or Department Chair. If you appeal their decision, you may contact Associate Director Ms. Kea Jones.
Class Overrides/Approvals
Your contact for this issue is always your instructor of record. If the registration period has passed, Please contact Ms. Kea Jones if you still need to receive the recommendation of your instructor and/or Department Chair.
Interuniversity Transfers:Transfer credit
Your form must be fully completed before our Office of AIS² can provide a Dean’s Office signature.
Max Credit Overrides
Please contact AIS² Associate Director; Ms. Kea Jones.
Special Grade Reports
The form is submitted by your instructor or department chair to our Office of AIS². Only your instructor/Department Chair can send the signed form to Ms. Kea Jones.
Experiential Learning Scholarships
COAS vetted exchange programs, COAS approved faculty-led study away or study abroad programs. Note that we do not work on admission financial/scholarship package. Please contact AIS² Assistant Dean, Ms. Ciara Williams.
Programming of Major COAS Events
Freshman Orientation (Bison Week), COAS Graduation ceremonies, COAS Sponsored Corporate events, Flagship Network of Excellence events, COAS workshops on advising and experiential learning. Please contact AIS² Assistant Director Ms. Bethea.

The Office of the Provost and the College of Arts and Sciences do not establish the format for final examinations, as that is in the purview of faculty. Nor does the Office of the Provost approve any individual requests for exceptions on a course-by-course basis. Please communicate with the instructor regarding any request for an exception, and/or with the Department Chair.
