COAS Global Experiences
Let the World Be Your Classroom
Expand your world. Enrich your journey.
Ready to take your Howard experience global? In COAS, we believe studying abroad should be a part of every student’s journey. Whether it’s a short trip, semester abroad, or international research opportunity, getting on B.A.S.E (Bison Abroad Study Experience) is your starting point.
We’re making study abroad real, accessible, and exciting through student-led events, peer stories, and personalized support. No matter your major, background, or budget, COAS is here to help you make it happen.
Global learning isn’t just for a few it’s for you. Let the Flagship support your path to becoming a confident, connected global leader.
COAS Faculty Led 890 Study Abroad Courses
These short-term programs are led by Howard faculty and directly connected to a COAS course. You’ll travel with your professor and classmates during a semester break—typically spring, winter, or summer—and earn credit while learning on location.
It’s a great way to explore course topics in a global context, experience another culture, and make meaningful connections without committing to a full semester abroad. Programs vary by department and destination, so there’s something for every interest and major.

Global Access & Opportunities
Flagship Passport Drive
Every year, the College of Arts and Sciences hosts a Free Passport Drive. Through this initiative, over 200 eligible COAS students can obtain a new passport at no cost and partake in our various COAS faculty-led study abroad or exchange programs opportunities. We believe that access to a passport should not be a barrier to students becoming emerging global leaders. We look forward to assisting students on their journey towards global experiences, we want them to be ready to embark on a new chapter of learning and discovery with their passport in hand!
